Valters Āboliņš absolvējis Latvijas Universitāti, kur ieguvis datorzinātņu maģistra grādu. Valters doktora grādu ieguva 2022. gadā Latvijas Sporta pedagoģijas akadēmijā, sporta un veselības nozarē.
Valteru Āboliņu interesējošie pētniecības virzieni ir kiberfizikālas sistēmas, signāla apstrāde un cilvēka kustības analīze.
