SIA “PULMOGPS Latvia” had developed a mobile application “Uzelpo” for asthma patients to control the treatment of the disease by manually registering intakes of medicine. For medicine intakes asthma patients use inhalers, therefore, the project aimed to develop hardware for a smart inhaler device, which could automatically register the usage of inhaler. EDI developed a wireless device with extremely low power consumption, which could be attached to traditional inhalers to notify smartphone application when the inhaler has been used. Depending on button press frequency, the device can operate up to 6 months with a single CR2032 battery.
Additionally, an Android demo application was developed to receive Bluetooth Low Energy notifications from the smart inhaler device. The application provides the list of received notifications and with the exact time when the inhalator was used.
