As every year, the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science hosted a staff training on gender equality, this time with the theme “Diversity is Strength”. The training took place on 22 November and this year’s training was special because it was led by two guest speakers from the Society Integration Foundation, Alda Sebre and Sigita Zankovska-Odiņa, who provided a new and broader perspective on gender equality issues.

The training focused on topical issues:

  • Does gender equality mean only women’s rights?
  • The historical development of gender equality
  • De jure equality versus de facto situation
  • The role and objectives of feminism
  • Gender equality in the labour market: glass ceilings and sticky floors
  • The impact of social norms, stereotypes and discrimination.

In addition, the EDI’s internal perspective on gender equality was analysed, identifying possible obstacles and solutions, and discussing what the Institute and its staff gain from promoting diversity and equality.During the training, participants actively engaged in discussions, shared their experiences and sought ways to create a more inclusive and equal working environment. This type of training raises awareness and strengthens the Institute’s values, demonstrating that, regardless of gender, together we can create an inclusive, respectful and effective working environment, contributing to the sustainable development of the Institute.
