From October 21 – 23, EDI Robotics and Machine Perception Laboratory researcher Oskars Vismanis and programming engineer Katrīna Viltrake attended the annual ROS (Robot Operating System) conference, ROSCon, in Odense, Denmark.

During the three-day conference, attendees had the opportunity to participate in workshops and listen to talks on the latest ROS systems and their applications. Highlights included sessions such as “Manipulation,” which covered new methods for task and trajectory planning with robotic arms; “Simulation,” which focused on updates in simulation environment creation and usage; and “ROS and AI,” which presented recent AI implementations within ROS.

Alongside the sessions, there was an exhibition featuring industry representatives that use ROS in their systems, including robot manufacturers such as Universal Robots and PAL Robotics, whose products are also used at EDI. Since Universal Robots is headquartered in Odense, attendees were able to visit their offices and explore their latest innovations, including the new “AI Accelerator.” Between sessions, attendees had ample opportunities to network with ROS developers from various fields. EDI representatives utilized this time to introduce the institute and share ongoing projects, laying the groundwork for potential future collaborations.
