The Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (IECS) has started a project titled „High sensitivity superwideband radar technology” in January 1, 2011. The project is supported by European Regional Development Fund ERDF grant No. 2010/0307/2DP/2.1.1.1.0/10/APIA/VIAA/078  and managed by Dr.sc.comp.  Karlis Kruminsh.

The overall aim of the Project is to create a technology for energy-efficient short-range radars with high sensitivity and resolution capabilities, which can be used mostly for mobile devices.

The Project specific objective is to develop super wide band radar technology and a pilot prototype of the radar to demonstrate the possibilities achievable by that technology.

Project and the study correspond to a priority direction of science "Innovative Materials and Technologies", is interdisciplinary, covering the engineering and computer science sectors - electronics and signal processing technologies. The Project results have a direct positive impact on the priority sectors of the economy - the electronic and optical equipment production, which according to the Economic Recovery Plan will provide the greatest contribution to growth by year 2015.

The Project is being implemented at the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, creating a synergistic effect with ESF activity 1.1.1.2 project “Smart sensors and networked embedded systems research and development centre".

Project implementation period: 36 months.

Eligible project costs: 277907 LVL from the ERDF funding of  257063 LVL and of Electronics and Computer Science Institute contribution of 20844 LVL.
